Tooth Extraction

An extraction is a medical term for removing a tooth from the mouth. Extractions are a relatively routine dental procedure, and more often than not, teeth are extracted with little intervention.

Extractions are only necessary as a last resort when other restorative treatments have been excluded – this may be because a tooth is beyond repair by way of fillings, root treatments, or crowns, or sometimes teeth need to be removed because of chronic irreversible gum problems.

How long does it take to recover from a tooth extraction?

In most cases, it takes 3 to 4 days for residual soreness to cease. The length of time it takes to recover is dependent on the state of the surrounding tissue and effective aftercare. Over-the-counter pain medication should remedy any residual soreness.
